Plastic Argument

Our learning intention for this argument was : to learn how to write a balanced argument. The topic is about Plastic. I needed to make sure that we alternated the good points and the bad points. I found this very easy after what we did about whether we should sail around the world. I think I have improved after what I did before.

Penguins

This is what I learnt about Penguins. I did this for my homework. We got to choose an animal and I chose the penguin because recently there have been many documents and researches about penguins. I learnt that penguins can't fly because there main way of hunting for fish is by swimming and so they really don't need to. They can swim really fast and if an ostrich and a penguin had the same characteristics the penguin would out maneuver the ostrich. I had lots of fun creating this presentation.

Japan Presentation

This is a presentation about Japan.  I like doing homework like this because you don't just learn the usual stuff like basic facts and reading a book but you get to use I.C.T and learn more than what you learn in class. Did you know that the original Golden Pavilion was burnt down in 1950 but then rebuilt? I didn't but I came to know about it after doing this presentation. I hope we get to do lots of homework tasks like this in the future.

Marshmallow Maths

This is what happened when we decided to investigate the properties of a marshmallow. My group were in charge of the temperature. It was an awesome way to do maths. (measurement) We learnt lots of new words and new ways of finding out and investigating. I hope we get to do this again.

'Sailing Around the World" argument

We were learning how to write a balanced argument. We needed to write from two points of view. I found it very easy. It is kind of like arguing between yourself. First we drew a 'T - Chart' and labeled it with For and Against. Then when we were writing it, it was very easy. I hope we get to do this sort of thing again.

I.C.A.S Science Certificate

This is my I.C.A.S science certificate. I got a distinction. I am very proud of my self because this year the test was harder than usual.

Child Labour Speech

This is my speech that I wrote to get into the speech finals. My class voted me in and so I participated in the finals and I won that as well. It is about child labour.

Rangitoto Art

This is one of the art works we did in Term 2. It was a choice of free art and what ever we wanted to do. There was unfortunately a catch. We had to use at least two of the techniques we used in our previous art works. I used the sponge technique for Rangitoto. I ficked the paintbrush with white and blue for the ocean. Graduating the colours was the hardest part for me because I needed to blend the colours over a blue background. I hope we get to ave another chance at choosing what we get to draw again.

Food Questions Responses

This is the form that my group made using Google Forms. We learnt that the best way to questions people is to use tick boxes. Then it is much easier  to graph your responses. Next time I will make a form out of using tick boxes. Learning how to use spreadsheets and the graphs were easy. They are a  fun way to collect data.

Sign Language Homework

This is my sign language homework. I did this during Sign Language Awareness week. This was my first time using Google Presentation. I found it very easy to use. My next step is to find out more about sign language and learn a few handy sentences in Sign language.

Anahita Travel Book

This was my homework for week 9 term 2. We had to research six of the seven countries that make up Central America. I chose to present my research using iPhoto on an apple computer. I like finding out different ways to present my homework. I found this application very easy to use.

Tonal Landscapes

This is my Tonal Landscape. First I had to choose a base colour. Then I added white to make the colour lighter. Then after it dried, we added black to make the colour darker. I couldn't add too much black to the colour or it will go pitch black. Mrs. Paton taught us this and I think she did a very good job explaining how to do it.

Leslie WordFoto

This was the last piece of evidence that I am doing for our Bridge to Terabithia. We made a word foto for a character in the book. This character is Leslie. She is a unique and brave fifth grader. I liked working with this book because I wouldn't have normally read a book like this. This has taught me to not judge a book be its cover.

Monet Gardens

This is my Monet Gardens artwork. We needed to learn many different techniques in order to complete this piece of artwork. We used masking tape to mask of a fence first. Then we drew in the horizon line. We used a sponge for the grass, bushes and the shadows. The secret of the sponge is to put an even amount of paint and make sure you hop it along the paper otherwise the grass will look like a solid piece of green paper. For the pond, we scooped up the white paint on one side of the paintbrush and the blue paint on the other side of it. That way the colours only mix on the page not on the palette. I thought the process was very fun and interesting and as always with success there was always going to be some speed bumps along the way but we came over them as a team.

Jess' Timeline

This is a timeline of what happend in the book called Bridge to Terabithia. We had to recount what happend in each chapter and summarise it in about two sentences or less. I learnt how Jess as a character changed through out the story. I liked the process and my next step is to use it on a different book.

How Plastic Litter Impacts Our Marine Enviroment

This is an example of explanation writing. Explanation Writing is about explaining something. I am proud of what I achieved because this was the first time I wrote something like this.

What Why How Chart.

This is my What, Why, How chart. It is a way of planning a persuasive piece of writing.  I used it to plan my Broken Ball Commercial for Writers Workshop. I think it helped to let me know what I'm writing about.

Leslie Burke's Obituary

We were learning how to write an obituary for a character in our class book. An obituary is like a death notice. The character is Leslie Burke. She died after she fell into the gushing water. Next time I do something like this I want to do it for a character in my own book.

Bottle Tops Research

Click here to view my research on plastic bottle covers!

I did this research because my classroom is working with another classroom to help the local school camp we go to every year for our inquiry. This year our inquiry is based on 'Enterprise'. We are helping Camp M.E.R.C. (marine education and recreation center) to bring back the marine education part of their workshops. We have worked out a way to help them by running an Amazing Race. We have also decided to gift them a present as a way of saying "thank you" for letting us choose their problem as our inquiry topic. The present is going to be a mural made out of bottle tops. First we needed to research on what colors the bottle tops came in. So here is my part of the research.

How to Write decimals in different ways.

This is my ShowMe. I was practicing how to write decimals in different ways. I found this very easy. My next step is to do this with numbers in the 1000's.

Evidence For Persuasive Text

This is evidence for my Persuasive Writing. I had to identify the three different types and styes of persuasive writing and show where they were by using speech bubbles. I think I did a very good job. My next step is to write something using the persuasive strategy.

Mixed Numbers

This is a ShowMe explaining how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed number. Once I know what to do and the pattern to use I found it pretty easy. I now want to know how to add mixed numbers.

Comparing Characters- Bridge to Terabithia.

This is my Venn Diagram for the class novel we read, Bridge to Terabithia. Everyday Mrs. G, our teacher reads us a chapter of the book. We listen out for the answers for comprehension questions. This was one of the follow up questions. We needed to draw up a venn diagram describing the appearances and personalities of two of the main characters, Jess and Leslie. As we began reading they turned out to be two very different people but now; because we are further in the story they are turning out to be more alike than we know. So we had to put the facts about Jess in the left hand bubble and the facts about Leslie in the right hand bubble. Next I want to learn how to add more detail to the diagram and fish out more interesting words.
